Living in Nanaimo

Nanaimo Update for May 2015

If you've been following the journey, you know the job that was going to be so perfect for me turned into a bust. It was not at all what I was looking for. If you haven't been following the journey, head on back and get yourself caught up!

I think about pursuing writing as a career option, but I don't know if I have the self discipline, or the talent, to turn it into something that would pay the bills. Do I honestly have anything to say that anyone wants to hear?

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, at that time I found a position providing wireless tech support for a major communications company. It's not the perfect job, the pay totally sucks, and I do have to deal with some very unreasonable people, but it does have the benefit of a flexible schedule and I work from home.

The first two months were spent in training, so it wasn't super flexible, but now that training is over, I've been able to cut back my hours, and I am loving life in Nanaimo, especially with spring coming early this year!

Did I mention that I get to work from home?

If you know anything about me, you know I'm not super-comfortable with new people outside of a work environment, so it won't surprise you that we haven't made a lot of new friends. Of course, Dave is no social butterfly either. He is perfectly content with our social life just the way it is and would be quite happy if we never went out.

Don't get me wrong, we've met a few people, and I do have a friend I can hang out with to give Honey a break from traipsing around with me.

I think moving to a neighborhood that is less car centric will be a huge bonus for us. The ocean, the beach, a walking trail, and a bike path are minutes from our front door. I can't wait to finally use the bikes we bought 2 years ago, and the kayak we got last summer has never been in the water.

Perhaps the best thing about our new home is that we'll finally have a place where Honey can have a shop. He'll finally have the room he needs for his projects! I'm excited to see his creativity come alive!

It's time for me to have a bite to eat before I head to my office to talk people through their network issues for the night.

I'll be back later with more about our upcoming move and the missing months!
